Paschim Banga Natya Akademi conferred 'Best Play' award winning production
আজ আর কিছুই চাইবার নেই, শুধু মুক্তিটুকুর আশে;
দাঁড়াও : Pause for a moment
You must have been hearing a lot about the hullaballo over the reservation and anti-reservation quota debacle - raging for quite some time now.. Wait a moment reader.. those who are aquainted with my way of analyses are aware that I tend to get to a situation from the rational point of view such that unnecessary bias may be eleminated- this is not to say that my judgements are always cent percent correct but at least such an attempt is always invariably made. Hence a few facts are presented to you first, quoting the Constitution of India:
- The Preamble guarantees - Equality of status and opportunity.
- Article 14 : Equality before law - The state shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India.
- Article 44 : Uniform Civil Code for the citizens - The state shall endeavour to securefor the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India.
- Article 46 : Promotion of educational and economic interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections - The state shall promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the people, and, in particular, of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, and shall protect them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation.
- Article 51A (c) - to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.
- Article 51A (j) - to strive towards excellencein all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement.
The mandate delivered by the Constitution seems to be clear from the afore mentioned Articles - though there are a few more. The founding fathers of our Nation seemed to be having a view that shall adequately safeguard the interest of all the sections of society without tampering with India's zeal to excel in all fields of human activity. The provision for the status of Equality is enumerated in the Preamble itself thereby today making it a 'basic Structure' of the country. The attempt to establish a uniform civil code also aims in this direction - it is clear. Therefore we must shun any attempt that tends to break this very basic premise of the Nation's Rule Book.
I have deliberately also mentioned Article 46, just to show what the country plans to do about the weaker sections who definitely require special attention for social justice to be administered. But it is for us to realise in light of various rulings of the Supreme Court that no part of the Constitution must be read in isolation. So let us read Article 46 along with Article 51A. It must be visible to us that the Constitution never enjoins us to compromise with the Nations strength while making any provision for anybody. A rule that if formulated shall create a schism between the two sections of our society is surely not what the Constitution directs us to do. Article 46 demands that the exploitative nature of society needs to be abolished. That done we cannot go against the others to create an imbalance to deliver some form of injustice to the others who does not fall within the scope of Article 46.
Let us now concentrate a bit on the present issue - a question - how is such reservation going to help those who need help? The people who are to avail of the opprtunities are already in a position to fend for themselves as they are educated. Remember the Constitution provides for these sections of society to rise above the exploitation but nowhere is it enjoined that they must be made superior to the other sections (I know it might just sound a bit harsh and selfish). The interests of the weaker sections when ensured in rational and legal terms the duty to discriminate positively, ends... At least my rational mind says so. For the vested interest of the politicians, an issue that demanded the lives of the likes of Rajeev Goswami has deliberately now been stirred up. Let us go beyond the narrow politics of our 'leaders' to see the greater picture for ourselves... Let us decide for ourselves what is in the best interest of the country.. We are the sovereign power of the nation and in us lies the authority... Let us frame and answer questions like "What comes first - stability of the nation or the narrow interests of a particular group?", "What is important - A second partition or a State based on the principles of equality?"........ The answer to such questions alone can lead us in to the path of true freedom, into the land ,
Where the mind is without fear
And the head is held high..

A Philosophy that intrigues me much more than anything else...
Should it be called the End or the Armageddon or the Metamorphosis or something else... difficult to say... requires an in depth analysis of the notions surrounding this phenomenon.
It all depends on one's approach to death itself and thus automatically comes the related issue of one's notion regarding life as well. Though it might sound strange but it is a fact that the image that one holds in his psyche regarding death is an oblique reflection of his view about life..
If one takes life to be absolute then death is reduced to a mere trivia. In this context i would like to quote from the Upanishads "Om Purnamada Purnamidang Purnat Purna Myudachchate, Purnasya Purna Maday Purnameba Vashishyte." Putting this in English would mean that if we deduct 'full' from full itself then we get the 'full' back.. Confused..? Look at it this way.. we all know that the Universe comprises of everything, all that is there, and all that is not as there cannot be abything beyond this Universe. So now if we subtract this Universe from itself we get 'nothing' mathematically. But that nothing is also included in the universe as per the definition of the Universe. Therefore we get back the Universe.
Now if we take life to be such an absolute, which can transcend mere bodily existence then there cannot be a state which is beyond the scope of this life. Thus death becomes something utopian for easier analysis and superficial explanation.
In reality there are more layers to htis philosophy. I just attempt to bring out only one at this moment. In an attempt to physically substantiate life.. it can be asserted that a being or for that matter anything lives or exists in the mind of other people. If one is shoved into oblivion by someone else then no matter how much he lives bodily he is actually dead. Likewise how much one is bodily dead if others remember him there is no better way to live. Biological death is not the same as the notion of death as the notion is one which resides in one's mind and cannot be mensured by instruments or any physical 'jantra'.
Hence Death is a transformation from one state to another from one mode of perceivability to another form of perception.
Death is not an Absolute...Life is the yardstick.

-----When are we sad------
The answer to it might not be as simple as it may seem to one at the outset of this article.... I have tried to analyse this apparenttly simple, but actually not so, but again not all that difficult question.. Putting it simply it comes to you when a dream has been dreamt and that it remains unfulfilled to the extent that it becomes an impossibility and a mere ephemera..
But is it all... Not at all.. through my personal experiences I can now safely say that it - grief that is - also comes to you when your very own philosophy backfires at you at a very critical moment in your life... A philosophy that you have nurtured with your true faith and your firm determination boomerangs back to hurt you and as well leave you mortally wounded... this blog is being created at such a juncture in his life that even the philosopher is being forced to say that this is the death of his exixtence, but realising that that by itself is giving rise to a whole new genre of philosophy... Therefore--- The Alive Dead-Philosopher.
I have always personally held the view that it is the external, that is what you express outward, explains your identity... I would like to refer to "The Miracle of lava Canyon" by O'Henry (Pls read it to understand better), where the fact that one is hiding his fear to act brave, gives him the distinction of being courageous.
But when it comes to relationships it is the latent truth in understanding each other that strengthens the bond between two individuals. In such an intimate relation when the partner now plays with this philosophy, it boomerangs back at you to strike where it hurts the most.. My friend always shared the true thoughts such that the obscure zone between us two gets itself obscured. Quite naturally this at times used to give rise to heavy moods and both of us used to contemplate on a particular issue to resolve it. Now that friend has decided to always act happy such that he may strew joy and apparent happiness to all those around. But the person fails to realise that it is actually perjury, that misleads those who love or know how to love. When confronted with such logic it is quite convenient for that person to refer to the same philosophy about which I have already mentioned. Thus it is now my friend's plan to create the truth by acting out the false and all that what is not; never realising the two pronged attack it is making on the other person's heart...
--- the creation of a schism between two closely bonded persons and the death of a philosophy killing a philosopher from within. ---
